Dhwajapura Mulle Maha Ganapathi & Kotilingeshwara

The entrance of the temple, Kerala style of architecture

Koteshwar or dhwajapura is located 2 Kms. north of Kumbhasi has an important temple dedicated to Lord Shiva known as Kotilingeswar and is one  one of seven muktistala’s of Karnataka.  The temple is built in typical Kerala type temple architecture.  This temple is said to have seven ‘prakara’(circular path around the central deity). To read more about the architecture of the temple and other details please visit my blog – Koteshwara . Here I have added only about Ganesha Shrine in the temple.  Pandavas said to have built this temple.

Mulle Ganapati

This chaturbhuja Ganapati, has Japasara, danta in 2 of this arms [top one] and modala [lower arms]

Ranga puja

Rangapooja is a very auspicious seva done in this temple.

The main shrine has a big idol of Shiv linga and next to the shiva shrine in this prakara in south corner  is another Ganesha, known as ‘moole ganapathi’ and can be seen from outside through a window. The main deity is still inside and only priests can enter here.  The large number of devotees that visit this Ganesha speak of the power of this Kshetra.
